At Grant’s Farm, visitors can travel past bison, feed goats, and meet animals from around the world. Now, the attraction is encouraging families to slow down and discover something a little closer to home. A new Nature Exploration Area, unveiled this week in the Tiergarten, introduces visitors to the plants, pollinators, birds, and ecosystems that make up Missouri’s natural landscape. The free attraction combines play, education, and hands-on discovery in a space designed to help children understand the wildlife and habitats they might encounter in their own backyards.

“It’s an added experience that ties conservation, heritage, native plants, pollinators, insects, and birds together,” says Tara Sondag, director of marketing and events at Grant’s Farm.

Located beneath a sprawling oak tree near the heart of the Tiergarten, the new space features winding pathways, native plantings, tunnels to crawl through and explore, picnic tables, and educational stations that encourage children to engage with nature through play.

“It’s a really great space for families to just relax and create their own memories,” Sondag says.

Grant’s Farm is giving away a free membership to whoever comes up with the best name for a baby goat.

“Whether it’s cute, clever or totally goat-worthy, we can’t wait to see what you come up with!” stated Grant’s Farm on social media. The little goat is the daughter of “the Granddam,” a special goat who earned her title by producing many of the farm’s best breeding goats.

To enter your idea, Grant’s Farm asks that you comment your name suggestion on their social media post.

A winner will be picked and announced on Thursday, April 9.

The 2025 Muscular Dystrophy Association “Show of Strength” on Sunday raised more than $195,000 to help people living with neuromuscular diseases in the St. Louis area.

For nearly 40 years, 5 On Your Side anchor Mike Bush has hosted the event.

Bush was joined this year at Grant’s Farm by 5 On Your Side chief meteorologist Scott Connell and anchors Anne Allred, Kelly Jackson and Rene Knott.

This year also marked the 75th anniversary of the MDA. What started as a national telethon featuring entertainer Jerry Lewis has transformed into a local labor of love.

Muscular dystrophy encompasses a number of neuromuscular diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Guillain-Barré syndrome and spinal muscular atrophy.

Give to MDA by texting DONATE to 314-425-5355 or click here to make an online donation. Donations are 100% tax-deductible.

In 1926, George Allen Kelley was a teenager fascinated by the pilots and their aircraft at Lambert Flying Field in North County.

He would hang around the field, hoping to catch a conversation or see something exciting. The big man in town causing much of the excitement was Charles Lindbergh, of course. He was working on the aircraft he planned to fly solo across the Atlantic as part of a highly anticipated competition. Lindbergh was considered a longshot, but he had won the financial backing of some St. Louis businessmen.

Kelley, who used to chat with the young pilot, was loitering at the field one day and noticed Lindbergh had left a pair of Dunlap pliers. He picked them up, figuring he had a cool souvenir if Lindbergh succeeded in his ambitious plan.
